Staircase Rapids

On this edition of ‘Holy Crap Nature is Beautiful,’ I bring you the Staircase Rapids hike in the Olympic National Forest.

We left from the Staircase Campground (definitely a winner!) around mid-day with some on again, off again rain. The forest here is so amazingly dense and green that we didn’t much mind the rain. It just made everything look alive and fresh.

Very gradual trail, excellent for the kiddos. Lots of amazing old nurse logs and epic mossy Ent-like trees that the Olympic peninsula does so well with all of its rain. The huge suspension bridge was a big hit and helped the littles forget about their wet feet.

We stopped and played at the river just long enough to build a rock bridge across the little eddy. Then it was back to camp for hot dogs and s’mores!

Can’t wait to come back to this area when the boys are a little bigger and do the longer hikes to the top of Mt. Elinor and Mt. Ruth.

  1. Your blog is beautiful and sharing your heart is so good for the soul – even if just documenting it for yourself to look at years later. I love seeing how much you get out and enjoy nature, your pics are inspiring! The woods are my happy place. Don’t let anyone steal your thunder or make you think twice about posting up your thoughts. I know, it can feel weird to be vulnerable on the internets. Don’t let anyone knock it. Or rather, don’t tell yourself that anyone knocks it (I used to fear what others thought about my posts, but F it, it’s not about them). That negative self talk stuff doesn’t help, only hinders. Funny you should post a link to your blog on a day I’ve been sitting mostly inside working on my own blog (my gazillionth blog) and pondering where to take it. I know you don’t love hugs that much, but um, I’m sending some virtual ones to you – hope that’s ok. πŸ˜‰
